Glendale, a unique community of 4,527 residents, will celebrate its 50th birthday on May 22, 2002.  During regular business hours, the city's population increases by approximately 12,000 people who are employed by the more than 300 businesses occupying nearly 2.2 million square feet of office space inGlendale Colorado this conveniently located community.  The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is headquartered in Glendale, as are several insurance-related businesses, non-profit foundations, and organizations.  MCI is a major employer, with approximately 1,500 employees at their Glendale office.  A vibrant retail trade contributes to the city's strong economic base.   Major retailers occupying more than 836,551 square feet of retail space are Home Depot, Target, Mervyn's, Office Depot, and Barnes & Noble.  Many restaurants, both locally owned and national chains, offer everything from drive-thru service to fine dining.  Six hotels and extended stay residences call Glendale home, as do three health clubs. 

Residents and visitors enjoy the city's 35 acres of parks and open space, especially the Cherry Creek Trail that is popular with walkers, bikers, and skateboarders.

Located in Arapahoe County, Glendale's 355 acres are completely surrounded by the City and County of Denver. This is a high-density community, with nearly 100 percent of the population in multi-family housing (there are only three single-family residences in the City).   About 90 percent of residents are renters occupying the city's more than 2,000 apartments.  The remaining residents own the 300-plus condominium and townhouse units in the City.  Glendale is the kind of community where it's easy to get to know your neighbors.
