Wheat Ridge is a Growing Denver Suburb
Incorporated as a city in 1970, its pioneer history stretches back to the early farmers and miners of the 1840's. Originally it was mainly a rest stop for miners on the way to the gold camps, it was named for the wheat on the ridges seen by travelers as they passed through. Much has changed since those early days and now it is more than just a place to traverse. It is now a great place to find a home and raise a family.
A Growing City Near Denver
The city is a community of 30,000 people in Jefferson County, just west of Denver. It is served by Interstate highway I-70, as it curves toward the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Primarily a residential city, it also has five retail centers, several unique small industries, an Enterprise Zone and more than 20 parks, equestrian trails and open space public land.

The community is focusing efforts to becoming a sustainable and vibrant city. Led by a community-based, non-profit corporation, the city wants to add to its already great set of amenities.
